Carrowniskey Beach, a few miles outside Louisburgh is a popular mecca for surfers. You can hire equipment at the beach.
All sailing activities are held at Rosmoney, where there is a sheltered harbour. Mayo Sailing Club have organized sailing on Tuesday and Thursday evenings in the Summer months. Bicycles are available for rent at Sammons, James Street. Some cycle paths have been built in recent times on the scenic route to Clew Bay. Brehenys on Castlebar Street stock a good selection of bikes and repairs and keeps spare parts also.
There are plenty opportunities for the enthusiast and guide books available. Croagh Patrick is the most popular mountain locally for hill walkers.
